The Firm has considerable experience in the electric power and water sectors. The Firm provides continuous advice to its clients on the restructuring of the Philippine electric power industry and the privatization of the National Power Corporation.

The Firm acted as counsel to a local power company in the negotiations and contract signing of a power generating company in an urgently needed US$4.6 M power supply project. The project involved the construction of substation, sub-transmission and transformer facilities within a few months to provide stable and reliable power supply to an economic zone where a major international semiconductor manufacturer was located. It likewise involved the rehabilitation and repair of existing transmission lines. Our work included preparation of the major agreements, resolution of right-of-way issues, and seeking government consents and approval to the arrangement.

The Firm is also involved in project development for several bulk water supply projects, which has deepened the experience of the Firm in working with a multidisciplinary team dealing with complex legal and commercial issues. The Firm provided legal support to the project team which was commissioned to conduct a study on the viability of a water concession project in the island of Palawan and the Municipality of Kidapawan, North Cotobato.

The Firm acted as the legal expert in the rate rebasing exercise of the concessionaires of the Manila Waterworks and Sewerage System, which is considered to be the largest water privatization project worldwide.

The Firm advised a local power producer in a US $ 22 million dispute with the National Power Corporation, a government owned and controlled corporation involved in the power sector involving several energy conversion agreements.
